MEMBER SERVICE

Ask-a-TASFGA.

A governance answer, not a legal opinion. Primary-source research, written in plain English. Quick lookups are staff-researched and included with membership. Deep research questions are counsel-reviewed and available on demand — at a fraction of what a single lawyer billable hour costs.

This is not legal advice. Ask-a-TASFGA is a research service. Submitting a question does not create an attorney–client relationship with TASFGA or with any attorney who reviews the answer. If your question requires case-specific legal strategy, we will refer you to a state-bar Lawyer Referral Service.

What you can ask about

  • How a board, agency, municipality, or elected official is structured — charter, bylaws, ordinance, enabling statute.
  • What procedure should apply to a given decision — notice, quorum, disclosure, recusal, voting, recordkeeping.
  • Where to find the primary sources — registries, filings, meeting minutes, FOIL/FOIA pathways.
  • What a standard looks like in comparable jurisdictions or institutions.
  • How a specific gap in law, rule, or enforcement plays out in practice.

What Ask-a-TASFGA will not do

  • Give you an opinion on the legal merit of your personal case or dispute.
  • Draft or review litigation, contracts, settlement terms, or adversarial correspondence.
  • Predict outcomes or suggest strategy.
  • Answer questions about entities TASFGA is actively profiling (conflict check applies; question credit refunded).

Two tiers of questions

Quick Lookup free with membership

Staff-researched, 2-hour cap. Points you to the right primary sources and tells you what they say. No counsel review — this is a research pointer, not a legal deliverable.

  • Individual members: 1 free per month
  • Contributor members: 2 free per month
  • Turnaround: 3–5 business days

Deep Research $150 / question (members) · $300 (non-members)

Full-scope governance research. AI-assisted initial pass, human researcher verification, counsel review before delivery. Reviewing attorney's bar admission is named on every delivered answer.

  • Turnaround: 5–10 business days (Individual), 3–5 (Contributor, priority), SLA-defined (Institutional)
  • Typical length: 2–8 pages, primary-source cited throughout
  • Published answers feed back into the member research library (dual-use — every answer makes the next one cheaper)

How it works

  1. Submit via the member portal. Describe the governance body and the specific decision or document at issue. Select Quick Lookup or Deep Research.
  2. Triage within 2 business days. Out-of-scope questions are flagged immediately — no charge, referral to a state-bar Lawyer Referral Service if appropriate.
  3. Research & draft — AI-assisted sourcing pass, then human researcher verification and drafting against primary sources.
  4. Counsel review (Deep Research only) — reviewing attorney's bar admission appears on the delivered answer.
  5. Delivery — email + member dashboard archive.

Quotas, rollover, refunds

  • Free quick-lookup quotas reset on the 1st of each month. Unused lookups do not roll over.
  • Deep research questions are pay-per-question — no quota, no cap.
  • Out-of-scope questions (triage rejection): no charge; deep-research fee refunded in full.
  • Conflict-check hit (entity TASFGA is actively profiling): no charge; flagged at triage.
  • Membership refunds available within 30 days of purchase if no lookups or deep research have been delivered.

Confidentiality

Submissions and delivered answers are private to the asking member by default. TASFGA may publish anonymized versions in the Samples archive if the question illustrates a broader governance pattern — always with identifying details removed and with the asker's opt-in consent.

The member portal and payment processing go live with TASFGA's 501(c)(3) activation. Until then, email contact@tasfga.com to join the founding-cohort list.
