Nothing scheduled

A convening is the easiest thing for an organisation in formation to announce and the hardest to hold well. An earlier version of this page listed four annual programmes — a summit, an institute, regional roundtables, owner briefings — none of which had a date, a venue, a budget, or anyone to run it. That is a prospectus, and it belongs on neither a calendar nor a website.

What has to be true before the first one

1. An incorporated entity. Convening people implies someone is responsible for the convening. Today nobody is, in the legal sense.
2. Something worth convening about. The plausible first event is not a summit; it is a working session on a specific published draft — the Pledge, a review practice, or a model bill — with people who will argue with it.
3. People who did not write it in the room. A convening where the only expertise present is our own is a launch, and launches teach nobody anything.
4. A way to publish what came out. An event with no record is a nice afternoon. Whatever the first one changes should land in a version number.

The likely first format

A short, free, remote working session on one published document, circulated in advance, with the criticism published afterwards alongside what it changed. No keynote, no registration fee, no sponsors — sponsorship of a convening by the sector under review is a conflict TASFGA’s independence policy would not permit in any case.
